Three Brothers
In 2018 the Auckland Castle lent Francisco de Zurbaran’s “Jacob and his Twelve Sons“ to The Israel Museum in Jerusalem. A series of 13 brilliant life-size paintings that left an impression on me. Since I saw them I wanted to paint a biblical themed series too.

Shortly after visiting the museum I begun working on a series after Noah’s three sons, originally meant to be murals painted outdoors. It took 3 years to develop the concept, plan and sketches. After many iterations and attempts to use existing photo references I chose to delve into photographing my own. With the help of my wife and a friend we came a up with poses, props, costumes and actors to shoot for this series.
Some time in late 2021 a friend called to ask if I wanted exhibit at his place. The now long waiting Three Brothers series came to mid. They never came to be actual murals and so I wanted to take the chance to paint them at the studio. At that time I didn’t actually have a studio. And so I used an old abandoned building to work on these.
