Neo-Apollonia Crew

The fictional metropolis Neo-Apollonia is home to a multicultural population, a class system inherent in its topography and a brutal playground for the city's younger generation.

Peza and Noir are two artists coming from opposite sides of Neo-Apollonia's local graffiti scene who teamed up to form the art collective Neo-Apollonia Crew (NAC) and to work their way into the art world.

1st Year Zine

To celebrate NAC’s first year we chose to put out this zine together. With it’s double sided bind format It includes pictures of works, documentation and statements from both Peza and Noir, all from that first year period. The Zine was first launched on November 2019 at HQRN Haifa along with our favorite Apollonian food stall Sheba. The event was a part of the social Bauhaus fest.

Peza

Roots

Born in 1992, Peza grew up in the Old City of Neo-Apollonia. A neighborhood that provided the artist her first visual inspirations with it’s historical architecture and it’s multicultural community.

Growing up in the company of a the neighborhood’s older generation Peza would discover graffiti writing in a young age. A craft that provided her first lessons in shape, color, composition and movement.

In the coming years Peza would open her graffiti shop, host benches and will become a key figure within Neo-Apollonia’s local graffiti scene.

In her studio works, Peza pays tribute to the street culture she grew up in and the social environment she’s a part of today. Spray paints and digital are the artist’s common weapon of choice. Partnering with Noir, the two artists also produce mural works as a team.

Noir

Tribe

Noir, born in the early 1990’s São Paulo Brazil, recalls drawing and studying arts in his early days. After immigrating to Neo-Apollonia in 2008 Noir adopted his pseudonym and began engaging in pixação in favor of figurative drawing, a craft that would shape Noir’s aesthetic approach in future projects. In a shared interest in solidarity and class struggle he became an active member of the ‘Apollo Rats’ football firm for which he produced numerous design works, and a founding member of the ‘Babylon Forge’ squat where he managed an independent print workshop.

In his murals Noir addresses his way of living with his choice of medium, image and placement. His preferred outdoor tools are black spray cans and garden sprayers which he uses in an expressive attitude. His images often reflect a political agenda and the walls on-which they are draw is politically charged.

Currently Noir is committed to find ways of expression new settings and manners. He is experimenting with monotypes and other forms of printmaking while maintaining his bold aesthetic characteristics.
