Three Brothers
In 2018 the Auckland Castle lent Francisco de Zurbaran’s “Jacob and his Twelve Sons“ to The Israel Museum in Jerusalem. A series of 13 brilliant life-size paintings that left an impression on me. Since I saw them I wanted to paint a biblical themed series too.
Shortly after visiting the museum I begun working on a series after Noah’s three sons, originally meant to be murals painted outdoors. It took 3 years to develop the concept, plan and sketches. After many iterations and attempts to use existing photo references I chose to delve into photographing my own. With the help of my wife and a friend we came a up with poses, props, costumes and actors to shoot for this series.
Some time in late 2021 a friend called to ask if I wanted exhibit at his place. The now long waiting Three Brothers series came to mid. They never came to be actual murals and so I wanted to take the chance to paint them at the studio. At that time I didn’t actually have a studio. And so I used an old abandoned building to work on these.
Neo-Apollonia Crew
The fictional metropolis Neo-Apollonia is home to a multicultural population, a class system inherent in its topography and a brutal playground for the city's younger generation.
Peza and Noir are two artists coming from opposite sides of Neo-Apollonia's local graffiti scene who teamed up to form the art collective Neo-Apollonia Crew (NAC) and to work their way into the art world.
1st Year Zine
To celebrate NAC’s first year we chose to put out this zine together. With it’s double sided bind format It includes pictures of works, documentation and statements from both Peza and Noir, all from that first year period. The Zine was first launched on November 2019 at HQRN Haifa along with our favorite Apollonian food stall Sheba. The event was a part of the social Bauhaus fest.
Special thank goes to all of our friends who help in the production of this zine including Yaronimus with concept and design, Guy Glass for photography, Alex Gray and Zivink for illustration, Shiran, Babylon Forge print workshop, Sheba street food, Shahar Sivan and Guy Karlinsky from HQRN who made the event possible and Jon for documenting the event and editing this short:
Here are some pictures from the event. All credits go to Jon.
Peza
Graffiti Writer
In her studio works, Peza pays tribute to the street culture she grew up in and the social environment she’s a part of today. Spray paints and digital are the artist’s common weapon of choice. Partnering with Noir, the two artists also produce mural works as a team.
Noir
Pixação
In his murals Noir addresses his way of living with his choice of medium, image and placement. His preferred outdoor tools are black spray cans and garden sprayers which he uses in an expressive attitude. His images often reflect a political agenda and the walls on-which they are draw is politically charged.
Currently Noir is committed to find ways of expression new settings and manners. He is experimenting with monotypes and other forms of printmaking while maintaining his bold aesthetic characteristics.
